Proper mowing is one of the most crucial parts of maintaining a beautiful lawn. The trimmings should be left on the grass since they are made of 90% water and will leave vital nutrients in the lawn. The height you cut your lawn is also very important. If you cut your lawn too short it may stress out your lawn and make it weak. Longer grass means a longer and stronger root system which in the end means a healthy, stronger lawn.
Additional lawn maintenance services include: Aerating, Dethatching/ Power Raking and Topdressing and Re-seeding.
Aerating
Aeration actually removes small; finger sized plugs of soil and thatch from the lawn and drops them on the soil’s surface. This process allows for better drainage and also promotes better growth for your grass roots. In time the holes fill up and your lawn is back to normal appearance.
De-thatching, Power raking and Topdressing
De-thatching and power raking is designed to free your lawn from thatch and moss. We recommend that you power rake and de-thatch your lawn in early spring so that it has ample time to recover and fill out. De-thatching and power raking is done with the same machine but de-thatching occurs when the machine blades are lowered significantly in order to rip out the thatch layer. Because of the low blades ripping through your grass, de-thatching can be very damaging to your lawn.
For this reason we recommend topdressing and over seeding to help your lawn recover quickly. Power raking occurs when the blades are set much higher to just graze the surface and slice through the thatch layer. This process is to encourage new growth and thicken up your lawn. With power raking we recommend topdressing, over seeding and fertilizing.
